COMMUNIST CANDIDATE
MORNINGTON ELECTORATE The selection of Mr J. J. Hannan, of St. Leonards, as candidate for the Mornington electorate is announced by’ the Dunedin branch executive of the Communist Party. Mr Hannan, who is 35 years of age, was born in Melbourne, and has lived in Dunedin since 1935. Since 1936 he has been employed as a welder in the Hillside Railway Workshops. He is prominent in the trade union movement, and has served as a delegate to the Otago Trades Council since 1938, hi s service on this body being continuous except for the period of four years which he served in the armed forces. He is chairman of the Hillside branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. _ Mr Hannan is married, with three children. The selection of a second candidate for Dunedin now brings the total of Communist candidates for the Dominion up to 16. The Communist Party will open its election campaign at the George Street School Hall on Tuesday,;November 8.
