FOOTBALL FUNCTIONS
Old Boys Presentations The Old Boys’ Football Club officially closed its season on Saturday with a complimentary dinner to its Third Grade players and a social evening for senior and junior players. Mr A. R. Low, president, was in the chair at all functions, which were largely attended. In appreciation of his services as coach of the junior team, the captain of the team, Mr R. Wilson, made a presentation of a framed photograph to Mr A. Berry. The following toast list was honoured at the senior function: —North Otago Rugby Union (Mr A. Berry—Mr A. R. Low); junior team (Mr A. R. Low —Mr R. Wilson); Referees (Mr R. Stevenson—Mr A. Patterson); Sister Clubs (Mr B. Watson —Messrs V. Bain, Excelsior, J. Johnstone, Enfield, and R. Macauley, Georgetown); St. John Ambulance (Mr A. R. Low). Trophies presented at both functions by Mr Low were:—Third Grade: Best back, M. Sandri: best forward, A. Gawn. Junior: Best forward, K. Gawn; most improved junior, A. McMullan; most consistent back, J. Dunne; best back, J. Hamilton. Senior: Most consistent player: A. Berry. General trophies: W. Perry Memorial for most improved player, J. Ryan; Neil Low Memorial for the player attending most practices, J. Bird; player who had done most for the club, A. Meikle EXCELSIOR FUNCTION The Excelsior Football Club also held functions for its senior and lower grades, at which the following trophies were presented:—Third Grade: Best forward, W. Bartlett; youngest and keenest player, Allan Parsons; most promising player, E. Smith; best back, Cleave Irvine; Davey Memorial for player who has done most for his club, Ivan Rae. Junior: Hazlewood Cup, most improved player, T. Guthrie. Senior: Philip Memorial, most improved player, D. Alexander; I. Smart’s trophy, best back, F. Diver; ex-players trophy, best forward, J. Gallagher; C McMurtrie's trophy for most improved forward, G. Ovens. General: Jubilee Challenge Cup, for player who has done most for the club, on and off the field, H. Pittaway. President’s trophy for grade which played best football: Juniors. Mr D. S. Loder, president of the North Otago Rugby Union, presented the Citizens’ Shield and Clark Shield. Mr H. J. Strachan, who was in the chair, made a presentation to A. Hopley of a smoker’s companion on behalf of the club, while F. Diver made a presentation of a table lamp to Mr W. R. Laney, coach, on behalf of the senior players.
