NEXT YEAR’S FESTIVAL

Two Championships Allocated The iOamaru Competitions Society’s 1950 festival was advanced a stage further last week when matters covering the schedule were discussed. Mr V. E. Doran was in the chair. The schedule committee s rocommendations to revise the ' classes in the elocution section was adopted as was the recommendation covering the awards of challenge cups in this section. It was agreed that six classes be set aside in various age groups for tests numbers and that one class be devoted to recitation bv a New Zealand author. The vocal section had minor adjustments, the men s operatic solo being deleted and a modern British art song for men added. It was decided to incorporate a class for choirs from Women's Institutes and a challenge cup has been presented for this section. It was agreed that for specified classes in instrumental and fancy dancing that a time limit be imposed. The Piping and Dancing Association advised that two Provincial Championships had been allocated to the society. Mrs M. E. Stowell. Timaru, was appointed official accompanist. The resignations of Mrs M. E. Robertson and Mr and Mrs Ball from the executive were accepted with regret and Messrs H. S. Campbell, W. Berry and I. J. Henderson were appointed to fill the vacancies.
