FINALS DECIDED

SQUASH AND BADMINTON MURRAY GUNN’S SUCCESSES The Oamaru Squash and Badminton Clubs held a combined closing night on Saturday when championship and handicap events were completed and trophies presented by Mrs R. S. Mitchell. Murray Gunn played consistently well at badminton and squash to carry off both championship trophies. Mr J. Craik, president of the combined clubs, was in tne chair at the presentation of trophies, while Messrs A. L. Taylor (squash) and L. Quirk (badminton) congratulated the winners. Results of finals were:— Badminton.—Men’s Singles championship: M. Gunn beat A. Higgins 15—9, 15—6. Women’s Championship Singles: Miss A. Robinson beat Miss Dorothy Williams 11—8, 11—0. Men’s Handicap Singles: A. Higgins beat R. Waldron 21—16. Women’s Handicap Singles: Miss Daphne Williams beat Miss Dorothy Williams 21 —19. Women under 18 years: Miss A. McKenzie beat Miss I. Wright 11—3, 11—3. Squash.—Championship Sirtgles: M. Gunn beat H. Kelk 9—5, 9—5, 9—5. Handicap Singles: E. O. Laney beat J. Craik 9 —5, 9—6. Junior Championship: I. Geddes beat D. Gawn 9—5, 10—9, 9 —4. Trophies presented were:— Badminton: Mitchell Cup, mens singles championship, M. Gunn. Mitchell Cup, women's singles championship, Miss A. Robinson.
