Mr Warden Charles Worthington, v~ writing from Waitahuna, on October 8, reports as follows:—“A great improve--1 ment is disclosed in mining matters •:.. at Waipori. Last week one storekeeper and the pioneer Quartz Mining Company forwarded to Tuapeka 850 oz, '-'and some was forwarded a week before. The leases taken up on the banks of Waipori, below the bridge, are turning out well, some of the shares changing hands at large figures. '■.’•The Maiden City Company disposed ‘-'of eight shares at £BO each. This party has been engaged for nearly three years adjacent to the claim, and judged from thd manner in which A'.'‘‘they have prospected the ground, and also from the high character they deservedly bear, there is little doubt but when they they get it into full work, they will be amply rewarded. A They are * advertising already for 20 hired men. The estimated population of the district is 1250.”
