SCHOOL OF DRAMA

PROGRAMME FOR LABOUR WEEK-END

For the forthcoming School of Drama to be held under the auspices of the New Zealand Drama Council in Dunedin over the Labour Day weekend the Balclutha Drama Club has been asked to repeat its presentation of J. B. Priestley*s play, “Mystery at Greenfingers,” before the school and a panel of three experienced producers. On the following morning the play will be repeated and each of the producers in turn will indicate to the students points which they think would result in an improvement in the presentation of the play. By this means it is hoped that a number of practical points on producing and acting will be illustrated. Two of the speakers at the school have recently arrived from Great Britain. Mr Kenneth Firth, of London, who is to cover the subject of “Movement,” has recently been appointed permanent producer for the Wellington Repertory Theatre. Mr Russell Reid, who will talk on "Lighting the Play ” as well as comprising one member of the panel of producers to analyse the production of “Mystery at Greenfingers,” arrived back in New Zealand about a year ago after spending some years stage managing professional companies in England. The other speakers are Mr Norman Byrne, headmaster of Horowhenua College, Levin; Mr A. R. Dunlop, of the Southland Boys’ High School, Invercargill; Mrs Mary Mackenzie, of Lower Hutt; Mr Douglas Dali, of Dunedin. and Mr George Swan, of Wellington.
