Strange Pigmy Tribe Found In New Guinea
An Australian expedition which has .just returned from a remote valley m New Guinea reported the discovery of a tribe of pigmies who, they thought, were descended from the ancient Egyptians. ' The pigmies were found in the Jimmi River Valley, which is bounded on the north by the Bismarck Moun : ta’ins and on the south by the Waghi Divide. The expedition also found a group of natives with markedly Semitic features and in the area which they inhabited a number of stone relics of an apparently more civilised age. « The leader of the expedition, Mr John Hallstron, son of a well-known Sydney philanthropist, brought back with him two birds of previously unknown species. One was a crimson bird of paradise, the other a small green parrot with brilliant red and yellow markings. They will be presented to Sydney’s Taronga Park Zoo.—Reuter—Sydney.
