REDUCTIONS MADE

SCHEDULE FOR NEXT YEAR SEVERAL POPULAR ITEMS Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, Oct. 14. No increases but some cuts are contained in the 1950 import licensing schedule issued to-day. The allocations in some cases will be reduced by as much as 50 per cent. A reduction of 20 per cent, in the value of licences based on the year before 1949 is to be made as compensation for the change in the sterling and New Zealand exchange rate. Reductions in dollar imports are also to be made. No provision is made for the importation of motor vehicles from Canada or the United States. The importation of motor vehicles from the United Kingdom is to remain the same in value as; this year. This year approximately £350,000 worth were imported from Canada. Licences for importations from the United Kingdom were increased during this year, and for next year licences will be granted to the total amount for 1949. , . .. Reductions have been made in the following items:—Unsweetened fruit juices except citrus and tomato, preserved pineapples, women’s full length fully fashioned silk, artificial silk, nylon or' cotton stockings, men s working socks, .elastics, circular knitted artificial silk piece goods, canvas hose rear view mirrors for motor vehicles and toughened glass with rounded or polished edges, magic lanterns ajid cinematographs, gramophone units mr the manufacture of radio gramophones, cardboard and pasteboard, certain classes of electrical goods, coil springs and tricycles, paint and brushes.
