Praise For Comfort Of Liner Rangitoto

PA AUCKLAND, Oct. 14. The new 21,000-ton liner Rangitoto, the second largest ship to visit the port since the end of the war, berthed at the Queen’s wharf about 8 o’clock this morning. She brought from Wellington 150 passengers as guests of the New Zealand Shipping Company. These included the Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, and Lady Freyberg, and representative New Zealand citizens. Drizzling rain obscured the harbour view, but the luxury liner, dressed for the occasion, passed the harbour sentinel, Rangitoto, after which she was named, in a brief burst of sunshine, making her look like a ghost ship.

The passengers described the Rangitoto as a beautiful ship. They said the trip from Wellington was very enjoyable. The Rangitoto is scheduled to sail for London with passengers and refrigerated cargo on November 5.
