Standard Of Play Below That Of Ranfurly Shield Matches At Carisbrook

Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, Oct. 14 “ They were not allowed to play good football,” said 7 Mr J. Elvidge, father of Dr R. R. Elvidge, giving his impressions of the South African tour. Mr Elvidge, with three other New Zealanders, outside the official made the complete tour with the team. He was generally disappointed with the All Blacks, since he felt that in different circumstances they were capable of a much better type of Rugby than they were reduced to playing. Asked how the games compared with New Zealand matches to watch, Mr Elvidge indicated with a shake of his head that there was no comparison. There was certainly no comparison with the quality of Rugby seen in Ranfurly Shield games at Carisbrook. ,
