POST OFFICE SITE Trees had been planted at the site at the rear of the post office and grass seed had been sown, stated Mr John Tait at a meeting of the Oamaru Beautifying Society on Wednesday night. Members were asked to inspect the area and to consider the best means of fencing it off. either by, a wall or a hedge.

IRRESPONSIBLE ACTION v Under night’s mantle the beauty of Oamaru moves indoors. At present many streets are looking particularly attractive with their pink flowering trees. Several instances of the actions of an irresponsible section of the community in breaking branches, in some cases large branches, off the trees at night for indoor decorations have been brought to the notice of the Daily Times during the last day or two. REPAIRS COMPLETED

The task of driving six piles for a 20foot span at the Birch Creek bridge, on the Lake Oliau road, has been completed by the Waitaki County Council staff, and the road is now open to traffic. The eastern approach to the bridge was completely washed away during last week’s heavy rain in the area.

WAITAKI AERODROME The homer beacon at the Waitaki aerodrome has been completed, and is still in the stages of being tested. Tempoary air-radio control equipment is now being installed to allow communication with aircraft plying between northern and southern airports.
