DRIVE FOR RECRUITS

ROYAL NEW ZEALAND AIR FORCE SELECTION COMMITTEE’S VISIT Continuing the drive for recruits for all branches of the service, the RNZAF Selection Committee will visit Dunedin on October 20 and 21, when applicants for cadet entrants, adults, WAAF and aircrew will be interviewed. With a new trade structure and increased rates of pay, the RNZAF offers careers in the ground trades which are more than comparable with those found in civilian life. The technical training schools in the service are to-day better equipped than at any time in its history, and skilled instructors provide tuition in 74 trades. In an expanding force, promotion prospects are particularly bright while long-term engagements which qualify for a retiring allowance may be applied for during the initial eight-year engagement. Vacancies for the next draft of cadet entrants, which will enter the service on January 25, 1950, are limited and applications are now being considered for entry into nine branches of the RNZAF. The age limits for cadet entrants are now from 16 to 17£ years of age. Youths interested in navigator and pilot training will be handed a copy of the conditions of service by the Selection Committee and arrangements will be made for a subsequent interview by the Aircrew Selection Committee. The WAAF continues to attract young women, and the committee will interview applicants for the 15 WAAF trades. Of special interest are the trades of aircraft trimmer and parachute packer, which are now open to airwomen.
