WAVERLEY BUS SERVICE

Sir,—l see that the residents of Waverley are after a bus service, and they have been succssful in obtaining a promise of the service' they want.. But the Dunedin Transport Department is crying it down. Why? Is it not a fact that the department was approached some time back and asked for a bus service. Its answer was that it could not supply one at that time on account of shortage of buses, and also because it was thought there were not enough residents living there to warrant a bus service. Now we read that ..this august body can run the sevrice if tney are granted the right

I think Cr Ireland spoke wisely when he said: “Sell the tram service, and let private enterprise run it.” If the council did that, I think private enterprise would make our bus services pay. I am of the opinion that if a private firm thinks it can make the service pay then give it the service. I also believe that on such an important matter as this there should be independent men sitting on the Transport Authority, not the city councillors. — I am, etc.. Wait and See.,
