TAIERI COMPETITIONS FESTIVAL

NATIONAL DANCING SECTION The Rev. A. Macfarlane acted as chairman for the thirfi session of the Taieri Competitions festival, held In the Coronation Hall, Mosgiel, last night. Mr Alan Dodds and Mr N. Stratton were the honorary pipers for a varied and interesting programme of national dancing. The judge, Miss Leola Robertson, said that the dancing of the older children, was particularly good and the local children were well up to the general standard. Results:— National Dancing (Judge: Miss Leola Roberston) Highland Fling, local novice (under 13).—Loretta Jones 1, Shirley Wilson 2. Sword Dance, open (under 13).—Fay Smaill 1, Yvonne Hill 2, Joan Renton 3, Frederick Bridger v.h.c. Highland Fling, local novice (under 11).—Ima Thomas 1, Joy Carruthers 2, Rosemary Wilson 3. Seapn Triubhais, open (under 16). Marina Callaghan 1, Helen Wheeler 2, Dawn Hurring 3. Highland Fling, local novice (under 9).—Rosemary Wilson 1, Hazel Struthers Sword Dance, open (under 16).—Marina Callaghan 1, Helen Wheeler 2, Yvonne Hill 3 The festival will continue to-night with the Instrumental and vocal sections.
