“PROJECT FOR POWER”

FILM DEPICTS CURRENT SCHEMES “Project for Power” was the appropriate title for a film shown to representatives of Government departments and interested city organisations in the social hall of the Electricity Department of the Dunedin City Corporation yesterday afternoon. The film was in colour and portrayed, with commentary, the present and proposed hydro-electric power schemes of the New Zealand Government. It was produced by the National Film Unit for the Ministry of Works and is being shown to interested persons throughout the country centres. Some superb mountain scenery and river country was shown by the film as the basic source of the country’s electric power. The sites of the dams now under construction with their adjacent mushroom - villages and schools were portrayed and the biggest hydro-electric project in the Dominion at the Roxburgh Gorge was shown in the early stages of construction. A feature was the blowing open of the diversion tunnel on the site of the Maretai project in the North Island.
