AMETHYST’S COMPANY TO BE ENTERTAINED BY CITY OF LONDON

NZPA Special Correspondent LONDON, Sept. 25. The Court of the Common Council of the City of London decided unanimously at its meeting this week to invite the officers and full ship’s company of the frigate Amethyst to lunch at the Guildhall when they return to Britain in November. A similar invi-’ tation will also be extended to a contingent of officers and men from the cruiser London, which went to the assistance of the Amethyst the frigate was first cut off in the Yangtse River by the Chinese Communists. The London has already returned’to Britain and is at present -being repaired. The city’s common councillors, when they decided to extend the invitation, also carried a resolution stating that they wished to entertain the men of the Amethyst and the London “to mark their admiration for their' skill and courage.” Moving the resolution, the chief common councillor, Mr R. T. W. Stoneham, said: “It is very refreshing in these drab days to see that the all-British spirit is still alive.”
