Repeated advertisements for " baby sitters ” to enable parents to have a gay evening at the ball held by the Otago branch of the New Zealand Motor Traders’ Association in the Main Town Hall on Friday night, brought in applications from over 50 people, said Mr G. T Clarke, the president of the Otago branch. Among the 900 people present were 35 mothers and fathers whose children were minded by sitters arranged by the association. Bowsers in' the entrance hall, posters bearing the names of well-known cars hung round the gallery, and dances appropriately named stressed the association’s part in arranging this, its first ball. Much interest was shown when, during the evening the ball was filmed by the Otago Amateur Cine Club. Among those present were Mr G. W Ferens, president of the Otago Automobile Association, and Mrs Ferens, Mr G. T Clarke. Mr and Mrs S. Mann, Mr and Mrs J. Brunton, Mr and Mrs G. Herbert, Mr and Mrs Knowles, Mr and Mrs R. Millis, Mr and Mrs A. Watkins, Mr and Mrs O. Rowan, Mr H. C. Osborn, Mr F. Craig and Mr S. Gray.
