STRATH-TAIERI WIN COMPETITION By the surprise win by Patearoa over Ranfurly and Patearoa on Saturday, Strath-Taieri became the winners of the 1949 competition. As Patearoa had not won a match throughout the season it was fully expected that a win would be recorded by Ranfurly and a play-off would be necessary between Ranfurly *and Strath-Taieri to decide the premiership. In Saturday’s game, however, the Patearoa team showed a pronounced improvement, and in both backs and forwards held a decided advantage over their opponents, and finished the game winners by 12 points to 6.
