MEAT BOARD ELECTION

Sir.—l am in full agreement with .your correspondent “ Elector No. 3. Mr Alex. Murray’s popular win by such a, thumping majority is a straight-out vote of noconfidence in the Otago executive of Federated Farmers. It says a great deal for the loyalty of our long-suffering farmers that withdrawals have not occurred but breaking point must come if the executive persists with its spoiling, tactless tactics. Not only did executive members threaten to remove mostefficient directors of long standing from the South Otago Freezing Company, but they also recently attempted to depose tried and true directors from our own friendly Mutual Insurance Company. Two years ago, during the Catchment Board dispute, thev supported an outsider, Mr Davey, against their own members residing within the Clutha River water shed The decision of the Local Government Commission then was just another vote of no-confidence in our executive. The Catchment Board issue is once again before our farmers. A Royal Commission comprised of capable, shrewd farmers (our own choice) recently recommended that, in the interests of the farming industry, catchment boards be abolished. An explanation is overdue whv our executive members have been so tardy in supporting a recommendation from such a reliable source and one that would benefit every member of Federated Farmers. —I am, etc.. Elector No. 5.
