GIFT FOOD SCHEME
Overseas Contributions To Britain NZPA—Copyright LONDON, Aug. 9. The Commonwealth Gift Centre in London says the amount of gift food consigned to it from the dominions, the colonies and the United States from December, 1945, to December, 1948, totalled over 125,000,0001 b. Individuals received through the post over 66,000,000 parcels from 1940 to 1948. The total value of the gifts during those years amounted to over £60,000,000. About 1800 schools received gifts under the scheme started in New Zealand and Australia. New Zealand, since 1945, has sent Britain food gifts of over 22,000,0001 b, and Australia since 1945 has sent over 40,000,0001 b of food in bulk for distribution by local authorities.
