GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS BALLOT FOUND NECESSARY PA WELLINGTON, Aug. 11. Entries for the New Zealand Golf Association’s championships to be held at Hastings from September 10 to September 17 closed on Wednesday and constitute a record. So numerous were the entries that 23 amateurs on a handicap of 2 had to be balloted out, and 13 on 3 were excluded. Sixtynine amateurs on a handicap of 1 or better were admitted and 28 on a handicap of 2 were successful in the ballot, making a total of 97. This, with 23 professionals, will leave 120 to contest the Open championships. Alex Murray (Titirangi), Open champion of New Zealand, is at present in England and will not be present to defend his title.
