FRANCE TRANSFERS CHANDARNAGORE TO CONTROL OF INDIA
Rec. 9 p.m. PARIS. Aug. 10. France has agreed to transfer Chandarnagore, French territory near Calcutta, to India before August 15, Indian Independence Day, said a French Foreign Office spokesman. Chandarnagore recently voted for union with India. Chandarnagore, or Chundera, situated on the Hoogli River, 20 miles north of Calcutta, has a population of 25,000.
