Jimmy The One is Plain but Useful

Jimmy the O.ne is a plain-looking gelding. but his looks belie him, and he is a more than useful galloper. He added to his handicap In the Oamaru Winter Cup by giving away ground at the start, but he made up much of the leeway in the concluding stages, and his performance in finishing fourth was a good one. A four-year-old by Siegfried from* Salford, by Salmagundi from Patricia Holm, by Nigger Minstrel, Jimmy the One has won three races this season, and in addition has filled minor places on a number of occasions. His first win was in the Pouraklno Handicap, of one mile, on the first day of the Riverton meeting, the place-getters being Baygundl and Nullah. At the Southland meeting he put up a particularly good performance to win the President’s Handicap, of seven furlongs, from Douglas Haig and Bath Slipper, and he followed this up by winning the President’s Handicap, of one mile and a-quarter, at the Birchwood meeting, with Rhine Lord and Douglas Haig in the places. He will have his next race at Ashburton, jottings Acceptances for the Ashburton meeting are due to-day. In the Dromore Steeplechase at Ashburton, All Clear 9.0 should be All Call 9.0. Lord Bobs FHly On the first day of the Dunedin meeting Fantasy was made second favourite in the big field that contested the Trial Stakes, but she lost her chance at the start by making a bad beginning A chestnut two-year-old by Lord Bobs from Folk Lore, she is engaged in the Novice Stakes at Ashburton. Winner of Double Sareel, who won over hurdles and on the flat at the Waipa meeting on Saturday, Is a six-year-old horse by Contact from Just Nell, by Nassau from Flying Nell, by Quin Abbey from Brown Nell, by Waiuku from Nell Gwyn, by Captain Webb. Sareel had two wins prior to his successes on Saturday, the moie recent of them being in the Hunt Club Hurdles at EHerslie, when he beat Hakim by TO lengths. \ Good Performance

Saleda is not likely to lose any of his supporters because of his defeat in the Qamaru Winter Cup., He got away badly, losing several lengths, but he put in good work running' down the back, and was second to the straight. The effort took the steel out of him, however, and under the circumstances he put up a good performance to finish where he did He is engaged in the Maronan Handicap at Ashburton.
