FATAL ACCIDENT
SIDE OF HILL COLLAPSES PA WELLINGTON, June 20. One man was killed and another injured when the side of a hill collapsed on them while they were working in the Akatarawa Hills on Saturday. William Spencer, aged 37, a sawmiller. who lived at the Akatarawa sawmilling camp, died early yesterday morning at the Hutt Hospital as a result of multiple fractures, internal injuries, and shock. Leslie Rickard, aged 44, a sawmiller, of V’tikanae, was admitted to the hospital with a fractured leg. His condition is satisfactory. It is thought the men were bulldozing a cutting through a small hill when a side bank collapsed, burying Soencer and partly covering Rickard. Workmen nearby saw the accident and rushed to dig the men out.
