RUGBY REFEREES
FIVE BEST IN OTAGO MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING Five referees had been named by the Appointment Board, as required by the New Zealand Union, stated the board’s chairman, Mr S. R. Inglis, in a letter to the Otago Rugby Football Union which was read at a Management .Committee meeting last night. They were, in order of merit: I. W. Gallaway, L.-Giles, J. Frood, T. Tsukigawa (Balclutha) and J: Walker. These names will be submitted to the New Zealand Union as those of referees suitable to control interprovincial and international matches. Confirmation of the transfer of the Australian match from Otago to Southland, as proposed by the Otago Union, was received ,from the New Zealand Union. The match will be played at Invercargill on September 17. The South Canterbury Union wrote suggesting a conference concerning Junior football among representatives from the Otago, North Otago, South Canterbury, Ashburton and Canterbury Unions. It was decided to reply that the Otago Union was in favour of holding this conference.
