CEMENT SHORTAGE
UNEMPLOYMENT FEARED
PA ‘ MASTERTON. June 20. The cement shortage has become so serious in Masterton that temporary unemployment faces plasterers, drain-layers and carpenters. The Master Builders’ Association and the Master Plumbers’ Association have sent telegrams to the Building Controller, asking for sufficient cement to enable essential work to be kept' going. Already some builders have had to put their men on to odd jobs for a few days a week, but that cannot go on much longer, they say. Work on houses under construction has stopped plasterers, and drainlayers cannot get cement for finishing woik. Plumbers are similarly held up, and builders cannot lay foundations for new houses because they are out cement.
