Rec 11 p.m. LONDON, June 1. Lightning is believed to have caused a fire which last night destroyed more than 500,000 incendiary bombs at a Royal Air Force bomb dump on the moors near Buxton, Derbyshire. The glow could be seen in Manchester, 20 miles away, and the heat was so fierce that sightseers were not allowed nearer than a-quarter of a mile.
