TROOPS SEIZE CONTROL OF TIN MINES FROM STRIKERS IN BOLIVIA

Federal troops seized control of the Huanuni tin mines after a sharp clash with strikers, who hurled dynamite at the soldiers, according to latest despatches from the provincial capital of Oruro. Troops liberated four foreigners who had been held as- hostages. At least two miners and one soldier were killed in the battle. Troops also occupied several villages as well as the Twentieth Century mines, where the violence first broke out. Catavi reported calm following the burial of victims of the fierce fighting over the. week-end. The Bolivian Government has ordered the general mobilisation of all able-bodied citizens between the ages of 19 and 50 to combat the labour and political unrest arising from the strikes.
