DR EDSON LEAVES TFSS MONTH 810-CHEMISTS TO CONFER To attend the first international congress of bio-chemists, Dr N. L. Edson, professor of bio-chemistry at the University of* Otago, will leave Dunedin this month on his wpy to England. He will spend 'three months in that country, and a similar period in the United States, for wjiich he has received a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation of New York. other primary purpose of his trip is to examine the use of radio-isotopes in research work, and this knowledge will be useful in radio-isotope laboratory work at the Otago Medical School when he returns.

Speaking to a Daily Times reporter last night, Dr Edson said that the congress in bio-chemistry to be held •in Cambridge during August, promised to be extremely interesting. It had attracted the attention of the British Government, which would hold a reception for it. The opportunity for discussion would be most valuable, Dr Edson said. Dr Edson is one of many staff members of the University to go overseas. Among those away at present are Dr F. H. Smirk, professor of medicine, and Dr R. S. Aitken, vice-chancellor. Dr H. D. Purves, of the thyroid research department, will leave for the United • States soon and another with an overseas visit impending is Mr P. A. Smithells, head of the School of Physical Education..
