OAMARU WEATHER
Sunshine and rainfall figures supplied showed that during May the sunshine for the month was eight hours below the May average, and the rainfall five points above the average.
Mr A. Bastings, Dee street, reports that 124 hours 25 minutes of sunshine were recorded in May, compared with 118 hours 30 minutes in May, 1948, and a May average of 132 hours. The daily average was four hours. There were 10 days with seven or eight hours or over, including one day of nine hours. The best day was May 6, with nine hours. On five days no sunshine was recorded. Mr F. G. Russell, Till street, reports that there were 1.22 inches of rain in May, compared with 1.19 inches in May,' 1948, and a May average over the last 10 years of 1.17 inches. Rain fell on the following days: May 7,2 points; 9, 11; 10. 6; 12, 3; 21, 1; 28, 66; 30,-2; 31, 28. The average maximum air temperature for May was 54.1 degrees, and the average minimum 40.6 degrees, compared with 55.8 and 41 degrees respectively for last May. The highest maximum was recorded on May 26, 68.9 degrees, and the lowest minimum was recorded on May 14—31.9 degrees.
