DRAMA FESTIVAL
HIGH STANDARD EXPECTED A high standard of acting and production is expected at the annual playwriting competition and festival of the British Drama League (Otago area) to be held in the Concert Chamber from July 6 to July 9. The secretary, Mr G. A Douglas said yesterday that excellent entries both in number and quality had been received. “ This tendency towards a higher quality of production is particularly encouraging,” Mr Douglas said, “as the clubs are given complete freedom in their choice.” There was a disappointing representation from country clubs, however, he added. The winning team from this festival will compete in the South Island elimination test at Timaru and the New Zealand final will be held in Wellington in mid-September. The Admiralty Players (Dunedin) won the final at last year's festival, which was held in Dunedin, Mr Arnold Goodwin, of Auckland, will be the sole adjudicator for the Otago area.
