JERSEY CATTLE
STANDARDISATION OF RECORDS WORLD DELEGATES IN CONFERENCE NZPA Special Correspondent Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, May 30, If Jersey breed societies in various countries where this breed is established approve the idea, steps are to be taken to establish a world federation to standardise the records of the breed and further its development generally. This was decided at theInternational Jersey Breed conference, held at St. Helier, on the Island of Jersey, and attended by delegates from the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Denmark, Sweden, East Africa, South Africa and France. Mr Albert Messervy, a well-known Jersey veterinary surgeon, was appointed president of the new federation, pro tem. It is proposed that the new international organisation shall deal with the international standardisation of Jersey merit schemes, publicity for the breed, the establishment of an international Bureau of Jersey Records, and the standardisation of the rules and regulations of all Jersey Societies. Several delegates, after inspecting cattle on the island, expressed the hope that the authorities controlling the breed in Jersey would improve their recording system. “ You must advance with the times.” Mr George Dawick, the New Zealand delegate, said. “You must test your cows if New Zealand is to be interested in bulls from here.”
