NEW AIR SERVICE
LINK WITH ALEXANDRA EARLY START PREDICTED Special to the Daily Times ALEXANDRA, May 30. Alexandra' residents are hopeful that a regular Central Otago air service will be . started m . about; a montn’s time. They have formed this opinion after the visit yesterday of officials of the National Airways Corporation. It is expected that three survey flights will shortly be made to allow pilots to become familiar with the route v Members of the party expressed tne view that the site of the. landing field was ideal, and that the work carried out on it was highly satisfactory. A runway 3500 ft long and 100 ft wide is available, and after recent heavy rain its surface is well consolidated. Mr H. Yates, traffic superintendent, discussed the possibility of a freight service and expressed the view tnat when a further 1000 ft of runway had been prepared Dakota freight planes would be able to use the aerodrome. These aircraft would be able to take 3i tons of freight as far north as Wellington, and lighter loads to more distant centres. No difficulty should arise in providing more runway as half a mile is available.
