Sir,—l am sure " Ex-pupil ” does not understand much about the state of the school, or he may not have been in the school for years. He should go to it and see how much room there is to spare. Why is the Education Board wanting to put up second-hand buildings if there is plenty of room? The heating is terrible: some of the rooms get smoked out nearly, whilst in others the fire refuses to go. Has “Ex-pupil” any children going to school? . . __

The school has done very well this 85 years, but why not put up new buildings instead of second-hand? It will not cost any more. I do consider new buildings very necessary.—l am, etc., Interested. Palmerston.

Sir,—” Ex-pupil ” says the school has given about 85 years’ good service and has been kept in a good state of repair. Before he writes about the school he should make himself conversant with the conditions in it at the present time. He states the pupils are -not .cramped, which is ridiculous, and if he had visited the school last year on the day for visitors he would have seen that He says the teachers enjoy reasonable comfort. I ask where—certainly not in the classrooms, and as for the classrooms being well heated during winter, “ Ex-pupil must have been sitting pretty near the fireplace because very little heat ever, gets to the back of the rooms. If he is a parent or guardian, why not come along to the next parent-teachers meeting held every fourth Tuesday and sit at the back of the room and see how nice it is on a cold night after the. fire has been on all day? If he is not a parent or guardian, why take any interest m the school and why write to the paper? Over 400 people signed their names to the petition that was recently sent to the board regarding the new school. —I am, etc., Parent, Palmerston.
