The marriage made Miss Hayworth a princess, and the Mayor in a speech after the wedding addressed the couple as “your Highnesses." Within a few minutes of the wedding it was condemned by the Vatican as “an illicit union.” reports the British United Press correspondent at the Vatican.. A Vatican spokesman said: “ The., church . ne.ver gave permisson for the marriage. While conceived in sin. the offspring can still be baptised as Roman Catholics, but that would not wipe out the sin of their Catholic mother.”'
The Associated Press, correspondent in Karachi says that thousands of the Aga Khan’s - followers celebrated the wedding by illuminating their houses; shops, and markets' in Karachi. Wealthy . Khours- : (the community of Ali Khan)' distributed food to the poor. Special prayers were ottered in the Aga Khan's mosques for a happy and lasting marriage.
