QUICK RATIFICATION

NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY MR ACHESON APPEALS TO SENATE WASHINGTON, Rec. 9.36 p.m. May 28. The United States Secretary of State, Mr Dean Acheson, has appealed from Paris to the Senate democratic leaders for quick ratification of the North Atlantic Theatre and approval of the Arms Aid Bill. It is understood that Mr Acheson said he wants early action in • order to strengthen his hand at the Big Four Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Paris. Senator Tom Connally, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said to-day that it would be impossible to proceed with the treaty for at least a week, and added that it was doubtful if the Senate could pass the Arms Aid Bill and the necessary appropriations Bills this session.
