DOLLAR RESTRICTION FORCES CONTINUATION OF PETROL RATIONING
WELLINGTON, May 27.
Petrol rationing is to be continued in New Zealand in order, as in Australia, to save dollar funds. 'Announcing"this, the Minister of Supply, Mr Nordrheyer, to-day said the supply of sterling petrol was inadequate for the satisfaction of the sterling area’s requirements, Petrol from dollar sources must therefore be drawn upon to meet the deficit. Any extra petrol consumed in any sterling country would result in an increased demand for dollar petrol from the sterling area as a whole, he said. “ The Government, therefore, has decided after consultation with and at the request of the British Government that petrol rationing must be retained in New Zealand in the meantime,” he added.
