NEXT WEDNESDAY
RELICENSING OF MOTOR VEHICLES
POST OFFICE ARRANGEMENTS The relicensing of motor vehicles for the year 1949-50 will begin at the Chief Post Office on Wednesday next. In its initial stages the work will be carried out in room 321 on the third floor-of the Post Office, but from June 13 to July 5 an augmented staff will handle the task in the basement of the Town Hall. ~ Because of the acute staffing position, owners of vehicles will be wise to apply for their new licences as early as possible. A Post Office official told the Daily Times yesterday that owners of vehicles who did not take prompt action would undoubtedly be faced with long queues. The ready response of owners in past years had been much appreciated, especially that made by the owners of three or more vehicles. Licensing labels willj again be issued in lieu of new number plates. The colour combination is- black printing* on a middle chrome background. There is no objection to motorists affixing the 1949-50 licensing labels to vehicles prior to July 1, when the new relicensing year begins. In addition to carrying a 1949-50 licensing label, it will be necessary for all vehicles to have a set of current number plates (black on mid-buff). The insurance premiums payable for a number of classes of vehicles have been altered this year.
