DIFFICULTIES MET
Shooting on the Waitaki
There was some discussion at the annual meeting of the Waitaki Acclimatisation Society on Thursday night on the tagging of maimais before the commencement of the shooting season. Mr G. Wisnesky said that members on this side of the Waitaki River had waited until they received the official tags before building their maimai, while the members of the Waimate Society had selected their places and labelled them long before the labels had been issued. Sportsmen who had shot in the same place for years had lost their positions while waiting on the official tags. Pr E. E. Butler said that it was absurd to use pieces of paper as tags. Conditions had never been arrived at to suit both the Waitaki and Waimate Societies, and. it was hoped at the conference next month that some finality would be reached on the question. Mr. J. McKerrow said that Waimate shooters were permitted to shoot paradise duck, whereas the Waitaki members were not, and Waimate members were Coming oyer to the Waitaki side to shoot the ducks while the Waitaki men had to be content with ’.he other types of duck. It was decided that these matters should be brought forward. at the combined conference to be held next month. The election of officers resulted: President, Dr E. E. Butler: senior vice-presi-dent. Mr H. D. Sim; junior vice-president, Mr J. A. Wray; delegates to conference in South Canterbury—Messrs E. E. Butler, H. D. Sim. W. Thomas and I. A. Taylor: auditor, Mr W. J. Davies: solicitor, Mr H. J. S. Grater.
