EDUCATIONAL QTAGO EDUCATION BOARD. TRAINING OF TEACHERS, 1950. APPLICATIONS for admission to Training College will be received up till FRIDAY, JULY 1, 1949. DIVISION A: Two-year course for which, except in the case of servicemen and ex-service-men, the minimum educational qualification is School Certificate. Candidates sitting School Certificate or University Entrance this year may apply, but preference will be given to those who already hold the required qualification and who in other respects are suitable. Applications will be accepted from exservicemen and women who have had three years’ good secondary education or equivalent. DIVISION C: One-year course at Auckland Training College, for which the academic qualification is a University degree. Candidates completing degree this year may apply in anticipation. SPECIAL COURSE IN HOMECRAFTS: Except in the case of ex-servicewomen, candidates must hold the minimum educational qualification (School Certificate) at the time application is imade; applications will not be received from those sitting the Examination this ,year. The first year of the course is spent at the Dunedin Training College. Otago students spend the second year in Christchurch Technical College and the third as probationary assistants in Otago. Applicants must be not less than 17 years of age on February 28, 1950. The salaries of teachers have been substantially improved, and it is intended to reduce the size of classes as soon as sufficient teachers are available. The prospects for young people entering the teaching service are therefore good. Liberal bursaries (minimum £145 p.a. for those under 21) are payable to students while in training. Those over 21 receive, if single, £285 (men) and £230 (women). Higher rates are paid to married men and ex-servicemen and women.
