FRIESIAN HERDS
ASSOCIATION MEETS A SUCCESSFUL YEAR In extending a welcome to members, the younger ones, Mr J. J. Stott, president of the Otago Branch of the New Zealand Friesian Association, told the annual meeting recently that it was pleasing to note the increasing popularity of the friesian breed. During the year, some very high butterfat records had been made under' Government official herd tests, and in spite of difficulties there had been many exports of predigree cattle. It had been a memorable year for the Otago branch, Mr Stott said. The New Zealand Association’s annual meeting had been held in Dunedin. There had been a large attendance of members from Bluff to Auckland, and discussions had been of great value to delegates. Through the courtesy of Mr E. M. North, a field day had been held at his property, “ Rosevale.” Visitors had viewed the stock and heard talks and demonstrations by officers of the live stock division of the Department of Agriculture, and stock breeders. Secondary school boys had also attended and competed in a judging competition. The chairman concluded by congratulating breeders on the entries of Friesian cattle at the A & P centennial show. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows.—President, Mr J. .T. Stott, Oamaru; vice-president, P. J. Robertson, Outram; committee, Messrs E. M. North, James Marshall, W. N. Taylor, A. Robinson. A. C. Miles, G. H. Stewart, F. McHattie, E. Jury and James Marshall jnr; secretary, Mr A. H. Templeton.
