RELATIONS DETERIORATING
VATICAN AND CZECHOSLOVAK GOVERNMENT NZPA—Reuter—Copyright VATICAN CITY, Rec. 10 p.m. May 26. A deterioration of relations between the Church and the Czechoslovak Government has caused grave concern in the Vatican City. Archbishop Dr Josef Beran, in a letter to the Czech Minister of Transport, Mr Alois Petr, is alleged to have said that an attempt was being made to establish a new Catholic Church in Czechoslovakia without its current bishops and its principals in Rome. A message from Prague says discussions between the Czechoslovak Government and the Roman Catholic Church have broken down and negotiations which began last January would not be resumed.
