COMMUNIST WARNS OF FASCISM DANGER IN UNITED STATES
NZPA—Copyright Rec. 9.36 p.m. NEW YORK, May 26. The American Communist Party believes that the United States Government is faced with the “ ominous danger of Fascism,” a defendant at a Communist conspiracy trial testified to-day. John Gates, editor of the Communist Daily Worker and one of the 11 leading Communists on trial,, told the court: “ The Communist Party taught that the present Government is not Fascist but that there is the ominous danger of Fascism in this country.” Gates said that the danger of Fascism lies in “ anti-LabouT legislation like the TaftHartley Law, witch hunts, lynchings, growing militarism, and attempts to outlaw political parties by legislation and judicial methods.’’ Gates gave this definition of Fascism: “It is total, bloody, violent gangster rule of the most reactionary sections of big business over the people as expressed in Hitler Gerpany.”
