LOWER LIVING COSTS
BRITISH UNION LEADERS DRAFT CASE NZPA—Copyright Rec 9 p.m. LONDON, May 26. ‘ The leaders of the 8,000,000 strong British Trades Union Congress have drafted the “cut the cost of living case ” they will present to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Stafford Cripps. next month. The TUC move may have important effects, as a growing number of unions are reconsidering their attitude to “ pegged ” wages. The present campaign by the 460,000 strong National Union of Railwaymen for a 10s a week wage rise ■is being closely watched by the other unions. The Electrical Trades Union, the Railway Clerk’s Association, and the Institution of Professional Civil Servants 'have begun agitation for relief by reduced taxation, reduced prices, or increases in pay.
