PRAISE FOR MAORIS
SYDNEY RUGBY WRITER NZPA—Copyright Rec. 8 p.m. SYDNEY, May 26. “The Maoris have confirmed early opinion that they are one of the best Maori sides to tour Australia,’’ says Phil Tresidder, Rugby Union writer in the Sydney Telegraph. “Their strength on the wings was demonstrated again in the match at Canberra. when the wingers, Lannigan and Delamere, scored five of the 10 tries. “ The four wingers tried in the Maoris’ first two games have scored 10 tries between them. Lannigan’s Canberra display has complicated the task of the Maori selectors who choose the team for the New South Wales match on Saturday. “ Their scrummaging was most impressive. The Maori game contains many features of the 1947 All Black play, but the Maoris lack the thoroughness and ruthlessness of the All Blacks. They are keen to play bright, open football.”
