The Council of the Incorporated Institute of Accountants of New Zealand recently admitted Mr T. A. Scoular to membership; with the rank of associate. Mr W. B. Taverner was re-elected chairman of the Dunedin Metropolitan Milk Board at the annual meeting last night. Messrs N. D. Anderson and N. H. Shepherd were appointed as the Executive Committee. Mr L. S. Jones. A.0.5.M., A.M.1.M.M., and Mrs Jones, left by the north express yesterday on their way to Australia. Mr Jones will take up an .appointment as inspector of mines at Herberton. North Queensland. , Mr W. V. Femie, vice-president of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation, and president of the Canterbury Employers Association, who visited Dunedin to take part in the farewell to Mr A. S. Cookson, travelled to Invercargill on Wednesday. He will return to Dunedin to-day and will. leave for Christchurch to-mor-row. Delegates from the Dunedin branch of the 2nd NZEF Association to the association’s annual conference, to be held in Wellington in July, are Messrs G.- S Brown, branch president, G. O. Johnstone, M. J. Wren and R. J. Gilbert. Advice has been received in Wellington of the death in Sydney last Friday of Mr C. H. Hudson, manager for New Zealand of the T and G Assurance Society. Mr Hudson was returning to Wellington after a business visit to Melbourne, and his death occurred after a brief illness. He had been honorary secretary of the Life Offices Association (New Zealand branch) since 1920. The appointment of Dr H. A. Stevely to the medical panel for the examination of the drivers of taxis and passenger service vehicles, and drivers over 70 years of age, is recommended by the General Committee of the City Council to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Dr A. Ferry. The recommendation will be considered by the City Council at its meeting on Monday night. Mr J. H. Gilbert will retire from the position of Shipping Controller to-mor-row. He will also retire from the Union Steam Ship Company. The Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr Nordmeyer, paid a tribute to the valuable services Mr Gilbert had given in the difficult war-time and post-war years. He added that although it was not intended to revoke the Shipping Supply Emergency Regulations, no successor to Mr Gilbert would be appointed. Tributes to I?r Brian C. Thompson’s services as tuberculosis officer in Otago were paid at a meeting of the Otago Hospital Board last night. “It is most fitting that we should express appreciation of Dr Thompson’s highly skilled services and to regret that he has found :t necessary to leave,” said Dr N. H. North. “He has brought the tuberculosis department up to a standard of efficiency that, to mv knowledge, does not exist elsewhere in the country.” It was agreed that a letter should be sent to Dr Thompson saying how highly the board had considered his ability.
