The conveying of three 18-ton transformers from Port Chalmers to the Halfway Bush sub-station has been a long and difficult undertaking. The transformers arrived some weeks ago at Port Chalmers on the Mataroa, but it was found impossible to take them by road or rail to Dunedin. Consequently, they were brought by barge to the Birch street wharf and yesterday were transferred to heavy transporters. They were later taken to Halfway Bush, powerful tractors being used to haul them up the steep parts of the route. Further transformers are expected later in the year.
