Lone Otago Forward

R. D. Fraser, the only Otago forward selected in the New Zealand Universities’ Rugby team for the third test against the Australian Universities at Auckland on Saturday, richly deserves the honour. Together with K. J O’Connor he was outstanding in the Otago University pack when it paved the way for its team’s victory over the Australians by 21 to 6, and there was no better forward in the game. Fraser stands just on 6ft, weighs 14st 61b, and is one of the most tireless

rucking forwards in the senior competition. His play in the open has developed under the coaching of Mr J. E. Manchester, and in last week’s game he frequently paved the way for passing by his backs from line-out and mid-field play. This is his third season in the University A team, and last year he played for the South Island against the North Island Universities, being unlucky to miss selection in the New Zealand Universities’ team against Auckland. Fraser was vicecaptain of the Otago Boys’ High School

first fifteen some years ago and after leaving school .had a season with the Kaikorai Club.

An indication that the Hastings electorate was regarded as a “key" electorate in the parliamentary elections was given by Mr W. S. Goosman, M.P. for Piako, in an address in Hastings recently. “If you people do your job and win this seat for the National Party, you will have a National Party in power,” he said.
