Pandemonium May be Selected as Favourite For Chief Washdyke Race

I'he field for the Elloughton Handicap at the South Canterbury meeting cannot be regarded as a strong one and the betting is likely to cover a limited range.

Eriskay appears to have her full share of weight with 9.0, but if she ran up to her form in the Riverton Cup, in which she was second to St. Bruno, she would be hard to beat at Washdyke. On the second day at Riverton she ran another good race to finish second to Aganev in the Easter Handicap.

Red Pickle has yet to prove himself over the distance and for that reason will probably not be in keen demand. Moneylender has not reached a place in his three most recent races, but prior to that he won three in a row, including the Otago Handicap, in which he carried 7.4 and beat Fine Night 8.5, and Sea Flower 7.7. He has 7.13 on Saturday. '

_ Batal ran his best race this season when he ran third to Aganev and Eriskay in the Easter Handicap at Riverton with 7.2. On Saturday he has 21b more to carry.

Pandemonium won the Ashburtdn Handicap with 7.0. Responsive carried the same weight into third place and Thornbridge was unplaced with 7.10. Pandemonium will meet these two horses on 61b and 101 b worse terms respectively.

The balance of the field do not make any particular appeal and at * this stage, prior to the acceptances, Pandemonium, Moneylender and Eriskay ar.e likely to be considered.
