MEMORIAL UNVEILED

MATRON EDITH P. TENNENT STUDENT NURSE CLASSROOM DEDICATED n The new student nurse classroom in the Nurses’ Home of the Dunedin Public Hospital was dedicated to the memory of the late Edith P. Tennent, M.8.E., a former matron of the Hospital, at the annual reunion of exDunedin Hospital nurses on Saturday. Dr A. S. Moody, chairman of the Otago Hospital Board, unveiled a memorial tablet and a photograph of the matron. About 130 ex-nurses attended the. ceremony, and later visited the wards of the Hospital. The late Miss Tennent was matron of the Hospital for almost 13 years, and was imbued with the highest ideals of nursing during her tenure of office, said Dr J. Thomson, medical superintendent of the Hospital, addressing the

meeting. She was a practical idealist and a constant advocate for higher education in nursing. A valuable contribution to nursing education was made by Miss Tennent, Dr Thomson added, when she assisted in the revision of the syllabus of training for student nurses and tv drawing up of standardised records for nurses in training schools. She had a keen sense of responsibility for her high office, Dr Thomson said, and although she wnu'd ‘ ate negligence, she was sympathetic to all who sought her advice. Musical items were given at the reunion by Nurse E. Tilson and Sisters Clark and Grant.
